The power of the trading community

Last week, I stumbled upon a quote from a Mexican economist José Ángel Gurría.

The quote said:

“It takes collaboration across a community to develop better skills for better lives.”

This quote reminded me of the beginning of my trading career.

I have to say that I’ve always been quite fortunate with meeting “the right people at the right time”.

It probably comes from my passion for traveling, combined with my willingness to find people with the same mindset during my journeys.

This is also how I slowly became a member of many small trading communities:

–	Meeting my great friend Mike, in Las Vegas (an options trader), who then introduced me to many other traders, and we’re now a highly supportive community.
–	Meeting my friend J.J. in Singapore (a systematic trader), with whom I had a very tight collaboration when we both started working on our hedge funds, which, at the time, we were both part of a very specific, highly specialised system trading community (which, unfortunately, doesn’t exist anymore).
–	Or being a part of several communities of Czech traders in my home country (some of the communities I even helped create).

Trading can be a really lonely journey, and I definitely owe my progress and success to a number of trading communities from which I learned a lot and got endless trading ideas.

The trading community does matter.

When José Ángel Gurría said ‘It takes collaboration across a community to develop better skills for better lives’, he couldn’t be more right.
